What are ants: Ants are a common insect in houses and businesses. Different species of ants can be identified based on their taste in food and appearance. They all have six legs and three segments on their body. The only ants that have wings are the Queens.

Argentine Ants: These are tiny brown ants that travel together in trails. Their colonies are huge in size and can be difficult to eliminate. These ants can often be mistaken for sugar ants as they have a liking for sweeter foods.

Fire Ants: These are the small red ants that pack a painful sting. They are venomous and in some cases if attacked by enough of them a person can go into anaphylactic shock but typically one bite will just cause some pain and irritation around the area they bite.

Sugar Ants: Tiny black ants like to eat sweet foods as the name suggests. They are also known as Odorous ants because when you step on them and kill them they emit a nasty odor.

Are Ants Dangerous: Sugar ants and Argentine ants are not dangerous. They are quite annoying and can be difficult to get rid of as they like to build large colonies. They are also known as a nuisance pest simply because they are annoying to have around and try to prevent but they don’t cause any damage. First ants and wood eating ants can be dangerous to the structure of the house or building or to the people when they bite and sting.

Why do I have an ant Problem: Ants like to go to properties where they have easy access to food and shelter. If there is a garden or a pet in the area that provides them with some of the food that they would like to provide for the colony. The yards offer lots of space for them to build a wide spread colony.

Where will I find ants: Outdoor areas that provide damp soil are the perfect areas for most ants to make their colonies. Fire ants like the warmer soil in the sun. Ants will come inside through any cracks in the foundation of the house. They like to build nests under the floors, insulation, or near a source of heat.
